Can a foreigner who is a Singapore PR become a Singapore citizen and retain their foreign nationality … by Elena Kwa

Answer by Elena Kwa:

Unfortunately, dual citizenship is not allowed in Singapore.
Citizenship application is a big decision which requires careful consideration and awareness of the related legal issues. As an existing Singapore PR, will be applying for citizenship by Registration.
Should your Citizenship application be successful, you will be required to give up your current citizenship. This is in line with Section 126(1) under “General Provisions as to registration” of the Singapore Constitution which states, “No person shall be registered as a citizen of Singapore under Article 123 until he has taken the Oath of Renunciation, Allegiance and Loyalty in the form set out in the Second Schedule.”, with Article 123 being “Citizenship by Registration”.
